Your Next Boot Drive: CF + SATA

Filed under: Technology — scott @ 10:31 am

Will your next PC have a compact flash drive instead of a set platters spinning at 7,200 rpm?  You can now with a high-capacity CF card and a CF-to-SATA interface.  Check it out!

Sandisk 8GB CF + SATA Interface = JOY!

Though my experience with CF cards makes me wonder how reliable my PC would be if it ran solely on CF cards.  I guess if it was in the card interface all of the time and not being yanked in and out all the time like it is with cameras maybe that would improve its durability.  This article at Tom’s Hardware considers some of the possibilities.

Programmers Get Paid Overtime!

Filed under: Technology — scott @ 12:54 am

Perhaps for the first time in history, programmers will be paid overtime! The programmers that sued EA Games for overtime pay won their case! This could have huge ramifications for IT workers that are often asked to work many days of long hours without any overtime pay because they are not hourly employees. I’m not sure what the short-term impact will be but I’m sure any payroll-submitting manager of IT staff that works their people to the bone will have to take notice. I spent a major chunk of my 20s working late nights and weekends for small software start-ups and dot.coms for no extra pay.

Firefox Minefield

So I’ve been running Firefox 1.6 (Deer Park alpha) for a few weeks now. I like some of the newer features coming but it has a few kinks. Well, in it’s daily self-update today I noticed it renamed itself “Minefield”. Looks like it’s a new milestone towards Firefox 3.0! What’s the name of the next beta release, Firefox Nuclear Waste Dump?

Why You Don’t Need 1080p HDTV

Filed under: Technology — scott @ 4:52 pm

1080p scam

This article here desbribes some disturbing details about why buying a 1080p HDTV is a waste of money. Seems nobody broadcasts in 1080p and BluRay and upcoming HD-DVD formats don’t even render native 1080p formatted video!

More facts vs. fiction on 1080p here.  You sort out the differences.

All Aboard the Firefox Bus

Filed under: Technology — scott @ 7:35 am

It’s all here. Pretty funny rip of IP. Now if someone had an IE bus then the 2 buses could do a head-to-head demolition battle!
